How Many Restaurants in New Orleans?

Posted by Cindy on

Hello. My name is Sista and I will bring you things I see and do in the French Quarter. Occasionally, I may venture out to other New Orleans Neighborhoods such as Treme, Lower Garden District, Marigny or Bywater, but mainly I stay in "da Quarter."

How Many Restaurants in New Orleans?

A new analysis by The Advocate found 1,216 operating restaurants in Orleans Parish which is more than in August 2005, just before Hurricane Katrina. The New Orleans restaurant landscape remains very competitive.

New Orleans loves to eat!  Currently, according to The Advocate, there are 1,216 restaurants operating in Orleans Parish.  This includes 605 full-service restaurants, 476 counter-service or fast food eateries and 135 bars serving food from their own kitchens.  That is an increase in 984 from August 2005, just before Katrina, which is a net gain of 232 restaurants, or almost up 24%. The increase in restaurants is even more pronounced for full service restaurants, an increase of more than 33%!  There are 152 more today than before the storm! The total number of restaurants does not include all the pop-ups, food trucks, catering operations , grocery stores or gas stations.

The landscape is very competitive which is why, when finding a restaurant location, you need a professional realtor to help you.  The #1 reason for restaurants closing is real estate; bad lease negotiations, not a long enough lease, wrong location etc.  Call us at Sydney Anderson Realty to help you maneuver this landscape.  We do it everyday.
